GCSE Revision App: Turn Your Notes into Flashcards and Practice Questions

GCSEs are the main qualifications taken at 16 in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. There are many subjects and many papers, so revision needs a system. Type to Study turns your notes and textbook pages into lessons, flashcards and quizzes, and the same ideas apply to IGCSEs taken abroad.

What GCSEs involve

Most students take around nine subjects, including English, Maths and Science. Awarding bodies such as AQA, Edexcel (Pearson), OCR and WJEC set the specifications and papers. Assessment is mostly by written exams in May and June, with some coursework or practical work depending on the subject. In England, grades run from 9 to 1, with 9 the highest. Check your exam board's specification for exactly what is examined.

Why it is hard and how to revise

The main problem is volume: many subjects, each with several topics. Making colourful notes and rereading them feels like work but gives little. The better methods are retrieval practice, spaced revision and past papers. Self-testing from a blank page, and then checking what you missed, tells you what you actually know.

Plan by subject and by topic, not by hours. Use the specification as a list. Do short sessions, mix subjects across a week, and leave time to do whole past papers under timed conditions in the final weeks. Sleep matters for memory, so do not revise all night.

A plan using Type to Study

Upload your class notes or textbook pages for one subject at a time. Read a lesson, then retype the key facts in Type mode. Key terms become flashcards that come back on a spaced schedule, so Biology terms from October are still in rotation in May. For 6-mark questions in Science or English, use Q&A to type model answers until you can write them from memory.

Use the AI tutor to explain a topic simply or to quiz you one question at a time. It answers from your own lessons with citations. It does not include real GCSE papers, so use past papers from your board for practice. There is more on this in /blog/how-to-revise-for-gcse-and-a-level.
