An evidence-based self-study tool to recommend to your students
Many students arrive at university with study habits that feel productive and are not: rereading, highlighting, cramming. Type to Study is a self-study tool built on active recall, spaced repetition and retrieval practice. You can point students to it. It is not an institutional platform, and we say so plainly.
What students do with it
A student uploads their own lecture notes, readings or course book as PDF, Word, text or Markdown, or types a topic. Type to Study turns it into lessons, then adds typing practice, a recall pass, spaced-repetition flashcards, unit quizzes with typed answers, and a graded final exam.
Lessons built from the student's files use only those files and cite their pages. The study methods are the ones with the strongest evidence: testing yourself beats rereading (Roediger & Karpicke, 2006), and spacing beats massing (Cepeda et al., 2006; Dunlosky et al., 2013).
Academic integrity
The product is designed to help students learn material, not to produce assignments. It does not write essays or coursework for submission. Its output is lessons, flashcards, quizzes and exam practice that the student then has to recall themselves.
Students can still misuse any tool, so your own policies on AI apply. We would rather be clear about the design than claim it makes misuse impossible.
Privacy
Each student's courses are visible only to them, and uploaded files are used only to build that student's course. There is no sharing of courses between students and no staff view of student activity.
What we do not offer
There are no institution licences, LMS integrations, single sign-on, admin dashboards or analytics for staff. Students sign up individually.
