An AI study tool for researchers entering a new field

Moving into an unfamiliar field is slow. You read twenty papers and still cannot say what the main debates are. Type to Study builds a structured primer from sources it lists, or from your own PDFs, and then makes you recall it so it sticks.

Start your free week7 days free. No card needed.

Build a primer on a field you do not know yet

Type a topic and Type to Study researches it from Wikipedia, web articles, OpenAlex research papers, Open Library books and GitHub repositories. The result is a course with units and lessons, and every source is listed so you can check it and follow it up.

Course size follows the topic. A narrow question gives two or three units, not a textbook. Use it as the map before you read the primary literature properly.

  • Sources are listed for every course, including OpenAlex papers
  • Key terms are highlighted and turned into flashcards
  • A diagram beside each lesson shows how the ideas connect

Upload the papers, theses or books you already have

Upload PDFs, Word files, text or Markdown: up to 5 files at a time, 200 MB each. Lessons built from your files use only those files and cite their pages, so you can go back to the exact passage.

Scanned pages are read with OCR, tables included. A long thesis or a whole monograph works, and for books with many chapters you choose which ones to study.

Remember what you read

Reading a paper once and moving on is how details disappear. Type to Study adds a recall pass where the key terms are hidden and you type them from memory, spaced-repetition flashcards, and typed-answer quizzes checked against key points. Retrieval practice is one of the best-supported learning techniques (Roediger & Karpicke, 2006; Dunlosky et al., 2013).

The AI tutor panel answers questions from your own lessons with numbered citations, and can quiz you one question at a time before a seminar or a viva.

What it is not

Type to Study is a learning tool. It is not a reference manager, a citation tool or a systematic-review platform, and it does not replace reading the primary literature. For managing a library of references or screening hundreds of studies, use tools built for that.
