NotebookLM vs Type to Study: from answers to a full course
NotebookLM is Google's research assistant: you add sources and ask questions, and it answers with citations. It is good at that. Type to Study adds the parts of studying that come after the answer: a structured course, spaced repetition, typing recall and a graded exam.
What each tool is best at
NotebookLM is strong for exploring documents: summaries, questions across several sources, and quick overviews. Its free tier makes it an easy first tool to try.
Type to Study is strong for learning and remembering. It breaks a book into units and lessons, has you type them, hides the key terms for recall, schedules flashcards and tests you with a fresh exam. Its tutor answers from your lessons with numbered citations.
When NotebookLM is the better fit
If you want to question many sources at once, work out what a set of papers says or get a quick summary, NotebookLM is an excellent and often free choice. Use both: explore with NotebookLM, then learn with Type to Study.
