Monkeytype alternative: practise typing on what you're studying
Monkeytype is a free, open-source typing test with a clean interface, many modes, themes and leaderboards. If you want to raise raw typing speed, it is excellent. Type to Study uses typing for a different goal: remembering what you are studying.
What's different
Monkeytype gives you random words or quotes. Type to Study gives you your own lessons on an index card, with words per minute and accuracy shown. Every minute of practice also counts as study time.
A recall pass then hides the key terms so you type them from memory, which is closer to what an exam asks of you.
- Typing speed and revision in one session
- Useful for computer-based exams, see /features/typing-for-computer-based-exams
- Free speed test at /typing-test, no account
When Monkeytype is the better fit
If your goal is only typing speed, keyboard practice or competing on leaderboards, Monkeytype is free, fast and customisable. We would send you there rather than pretend Type to Study is a better pure typing test.
