ACT Study App: Learn Grammar, Maths and Science Concepts from Your Own Material
The ACT is a US college admissions test covering English, maths, reading and science, with an optional writing essay. It is a speed test, so you improve by timed practice. Type to Study can handle the knowledge underneath: grammar rules, maths formulae and the vocabulary of science passages.
What the ACT covers
The ACT is created by ACT, Inc. It has sections in English, Mathematics and Reading, plus a Science section that tests interpreting data and experiments, and an optional Writing test. Most questions are multiple choice. It is offered on paper and, in many places, on computer. Recent changes made the Science section optional for some test takers, and details evolve, so use act.org for the current format.
What makes it hard and how to prepare
The ACT gives little time per question, so the challenge is pace. The Science section is less about science knowledge and more about reading graphs and comparing experiments quickly. The English section is a test of standard grammar and rhetoric conventions, which are learnable rules.
Take an official practice test to find your baseline, review each missed question for its cause, and practise by section with a timer. Build a list of the rules and formulae you miss, and review them with spaced repetition rather than rereading the list.
A plan using Type to Study
Upload your own error notes or a prep book chapter you own, and make a course for English conventions and maths topics. Use Type mode to retype each rule with an example, and the Recall pass to type the key terms. Flashcards will bring back the rules that keep tripping you up after 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30 days.
Use a final exam with the timer on as a rough check of recall, but understand it is generated from your own material and is not an ACT mock. For realistic pacing, use official ACT practice tests.
