MCAT Study App: Build Flashcards and Practice from Your Prep Notes
The MCAT tests science content and reasoning for applicants to medical school. It is a long exam, so content review has to be efficient. Type to Study builds lessons, flashcards and quizzes from the books and notes you already use. It handles the content side. For official passages and full-length practice exams, use the AAMC materials.
What the MCAT covers
The MCAT is run by the Association of American Medical Colleges and taken on computer at test centres. It has four sections: Biological and Biochemical Foundations of Living Systems, Chemical and Physical Foundations of Biological Systems, Psychological, Social, and Biological Foundations of Behavior, and Critical Analysis and Reasoning Skills (CARS). Most questions are passage-based multiple choice.
The first three sections test science content plus data interpretation. CARS tests reading and reasoning with passages from the humanities and social sciences and needs no outside knowledge. Section timings and the scoring scale are published by the AAMC, so confirm them there.
Why it is hard and how to prepare
Two things make it hard. The content spans biology, biochemistry, general and organic chemistry, physics, psychology and sociology. And the questions use that content on unfamiliar experiments, so knowing a fact is not enough. Most prep advice that holds up comes down to: close content gaps with active recall, then practise passages untimed, then timed, then take full-length exams under real conditions.
Spaced repetition suits the large factual load, such as amino acid properties, metabolic pathways and psychology terms. Reviewing every missed practice question in a log, and tagging the concept behind it, turns mistakes into a to-do list.
A plan using Type to Study
Upload your content review books you own, or your lecture notes, as PDFs. Pick the chapters you need first, since books with more than three chapters ask which to study. Read each lesson, retype the key pathways in Type mode, and use the Recall pass for terms. Flashcards for every key term then come back at 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30 days.
After each practice test, upload your own error log or notes on the weak topics and build a short course from them. Ask the AI tutor to explain a concept simply or to give a memory trick. CARS is a skill, not content, so Type to Study will not train it. Practise that with passages from the AAMC and other reading.
