What MDCAT covers

The Medical and Dental College Admission Test is administered under the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council, with the test conducted by the body it designates. It is a multiple-choice paper covering Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English, and in some years a Logical Reasoning section. The format, syllabus and conducting authority have changed more than once, so check the current PMDC announcement and syllabus for your year.

Why it is hard and how to prepare

The test is competitive, and a few marks decide a seat. The syllabus is based on two years of FSc content, and Biology questions often test details from the textbook. The most reliable method is to learn the textbook thoroughly, test yourself by recall, and revise on a schedule instead of cramming. Then solve past papers and timed mocks to learn the style and pace.

Do not rely on one pass of reading. Close the book and write or type what you remember, check against the text, and mark gaps. Return to those gaps after a day, a few days and a week.

A plan using Type to Study

Upload your Biology and Chemistry textbook PDFs, or notes you have scanned. Choose the chapters you are studying this month. Read each lesson, retype the key definitions and processes in Type mode, and type the hidden key terms in the Recall pass. Flashcards will schedule the vocabulary and facts at 1, 3, 7, 14 and 30 days.

Use unit quizzes after each chapter, and a final exam with the timer on before each mock test. Physics numericals and English need their own practice on paper and with passages. Type to Study does not hold official MDCAT questions, so use past papers for that.
